Joey is newly six — and already his cozy, comfy pajamas are becoming a thing of the past. He now prefers to sleep wearing only shorts. He snuggles up with his warm covers, with his overgrown collection of stuffed animals, and with his little chest as bare as it can be. It makes me sad — to see my first baby growing into a boy who will become a man — and it makes me wonder how this all happens, how this baby boy of mine can evolve so quickly into a little person who can make his own wise decisions.
Tonight I said to Joey, “I see you don’t like to wear shirts to bed anymore.”
“Well,” Joey said. “When you are six or eight or 80, your bodies get bigger. And all bodies need oxygen in them. And all this warm air in our house is oxygen. And now that I’m older, my body can hold more oxygen so it keeps me warmer.”
With age comes wisdom. With Joey comes one amazing moment after another.
