I wish I’d known about Shabby Apple months ago when I was shopping for a black dress for my 20-year class reunion. I couldn’t find a cute one anywhere, which worked out just fine since my generous sister set me on a shopping spree in her jam-packed closet and let me pick out a perfect little number for my August festivities. Next time I’m in the market for something snazzy, though, I’m heading online—check out these everything ebony dresses. Just what I was looking for.
Shabby Apple is the best. Not only because it’s a trendy dress boutique, owned by women, operated for women, and always supporting women but because the folks there want to give away one dress here. Why? Well, because, in the spirit of breast cancer awareness, they want to honor women. How nice is that? They also will offer a 15% discount to readers. Stay tuned for more on that.
Want to win that not-so-shabby jersey dress pictured above? Here’s what you’ve got to do—leave a comment and tell me what you love most about your body. Seems a fitting question since on October 15, it’s Love Your Body Day. Feel free to share more than one loved body part if you wish. I’ll start: I love my calf muscles. And although I don’t come by it naturally, I love my tummy too.
OK, so here’s the deal: Leave your comment before 5 PM on Tuesday, October 21, because after that, I’ll conduct my random drawing, which probably will involve one little boy’s hand pulling a name from a hat. After that, I’ll announce the winner, who will work with my Shabby Apple friends on sizing and delivery of this wondrous dress, which incidentally is called 90 Words Per Minute and comes with the following stats:
What I love most about my body is the way it surprises me. The other day, I went on a run — I feel like it, but I was meeting a friend. Anyway, as soon as I got started, my legs, arms, and core just came together and made it one of the best runs of my life. I don’t know if I looked beautiful, but because everything was working so well, I FELT beautiful.
Thanks for the giveaway! I’m a BIG fan of Shabby Apple!
My favorite body part is my feet… I have always had cute toes (especially after a pedicure) but I love my feet even more now since I got a tattoo on the top of my left foot for my birthday. Its a very symbolic tattoo as its a butterfly with a breast cancer ribbon through it. My mom is battling breast cancer for a 2nd time, had a bilateral mastectomy, is ending her 18 wks of aggressive chemo, and is on to radiation next. Having 30 mins of a little pain is the least I could do to honor this amazing woman who is going through so much.
What I love most about my body is my skin. I have been blessed with great genetics and protect my skin with SPF so that I always look younger than I am. Now, I am teaching my daughter to take care of her skin, which is also beautiful.
I have been every size there is between 8 and 16 and sometimes it is difficult to be comfortable in my own skin, but its mine and I love it!
What a cute dress! That would be a great church dress as well as a going on a dinner date with just my husband dress.
I had thought about getting the dress for my Aunt to help boost her spirit, but she doesn’t like to wear dresses…
Have a blessed day.
I love the small of my back…..the part that peeks above the waistband of my jeans. No matter how much I have eaten, it still manages to look amazing. As I am getting older, I am realizing that it isn’t about how your body looks, it’s about how you feel in that body and this body isn’t feelin’ too shabby right now!
Thanks for the opportunity Jacki!!!!
Hi there! I just found your blog via UF’s web site. I’m currently in my first semester of the ProTeach program in the College of Ed.
What I love most about my body is my hair! I used to hate it when I was younger–too straight, too thin, too oily… but I’ve learned to appreciate it’s cooperation on all those mornings I don’t have time to do anything with it.
I get it from my dad, and wouldn’t trade it for anything!
The best part of my body is my legs. My best body part selection is like my eyeglass choices; I allow other people to choose both since they are the ones who really look at them. People always have said, “You got great legs”.
As a result, great legs need a great dress and Shabby Apple’s turquoise one is a cutesy.
My body? Well….I’ve had 6 children and people still tell me I look great. When they find out my age they are even more amazed. I look about 10 years younger than I am, which Im so glad now that Im older. Iv’e managed to stay healthy and fit and lost all the baby fat that Ive had from the kids, so I guess the fact that my body goes back into a youthful state would be my favorite thing I love…Minus a few trophy stretch marks, I still feel beautiful!
Such cute clothes!! I wish I had a little girl to dress up in all of the fun dresses!!!
My favorite part of my body are my scars. Since I’ve had multiple reconstructive surgeries for breast cancer, I have a few. The remind me of what I went through 5 years ago and how much stronger I am now because of that experience. They are hidden by my clothes, so no one can see my hidden “strength marks.” They will always be there, a constant reminder to live well every day and to never forget what I went through to get here.
My favorite body part is my eyes. They are a deep smokey emerald green when I’m happy, but have an almost greyish cast when I’m not. I was told in middle school that my eyes were “the color of warm vomit” by a girl who was immensely jealous of me. I let it get me down for a bit, but then decided that any color that could resemble a bad thing, could also resemble a great thing. So smokey emerald it is
I love everything about my body for never breaking down, never failing me. I guess if I have to name a specific part for the way it looks, I would say my stomach because it’s reasonably flat with minimal effort
If I had to name a part for the way it works rather than looks I have to go with my immune system. It rocks, I’m always healthy and I never take that for granted!!!!
I love my small waist and big hips! The combo looks killer in a dress; the hips to waist ratio just screams “female”.
Well…well well…what a loaded question for me since I am still in the process of reconstruction of my left breast or absence of left breast (implant in now) since my mastectomy in May. I would say that what I love most about my body is that left breast or absence of it! Why …would you say? Well, because of my breast cancer many things have changed in my life! I have met so many amazing women including Jacki, most of these women have shared with me such amazing stories of courage and beauty that I never knew existed in the world of breast cancer! I started Fight Pink.org with my daughter who is a Boxer and wanted to stand on a platform for her boxing and make a difference in the world. So what do I love most about my body? That would be my left breast , which reminds me everyday when I wake up and look in the mirror, I’m lucky to be alive!
What a funny question: I have never given much thought to what I love about my body. But, my definite answer is that it works and that it is healthy. I am 39 but am able to play beach volleyball with girls in their teens and 20s, swim some pretty difficult sets and make it to gym many mornings at 5 AM. I used to take all that for granted but now I realize what a blessing it is.
I used to get upset about being too big, too tomboy; not cute, not sexy like many girls but now I realize the body is about so much more. It is literally your “home” on this earth.
Keep up the great blogging. -KD
I have always loved my feet. If you ask my husband what is my best feature he knows to say feet. They look so much better with a fresh pedicure! Yes, and sometimes I do like my curly hair. I know I say I wish I had straight hair but it is easy to deal with and cute pulled up on top of my head!
Thanks Jacki—and you would have looked great in anything at the reunion~you know who would have let you know……

My honest to goodness favorite part of my body would be my “girl organs”, cause they were super cool enough to make my babies whom I can no longer live without. Can we give a shout out to the ovaries and uterus? Whoo hoo!
First of all..i have to say i absolutely love your site and made sure everyone knew about it by making our recomended blog in my company’s newsletter this month, im from Costa Rica so you can be sure you’re blog has had an intl impact…
As for the question, i love turquoise, its my fav color so im definately taking a chance….my favorite part of my body, I have two…my eyes…they’re almond shaped and I’ve been told I can speak with my eyes…when im feeling down or unpretty..i just put on some make up, little bit of eyeliner and they stand out beautifully and i love my legs…im short but have long legs and I love how they look on heels and a dress or skirt…
Since I’m probably the oldest woman answering your question, Jacki, my reply might seem a bit odd. My favorite body part is my whole body. Oh, it’s old and sagging, but it takes me where I need to go. It’s still alive after all that’s been done to it ! Being alive is a good thing !
Thanks for telling me about shabby apple, have to keep it in mind. Sorry right now me and my body are at war with eahc other, not feeling the love!
My favorite body part? That’s tough, because at thirty my body began to abandon me. At least, the young me. My flat tummy got a “thirty pouch” and now it has a “thirty-four pudge”. My tight hiney…more like Jello these days! But my boobies…they are so small that I think they will always be perky! So, I LOVE MY BOOBIES. Mainly because I’ve never had to wear a bra!! Plus, I WALK for ALL BOOBIES!!
The first thing that came to my mind about my body are my “battle scars.” I was part of the Hopkins 4K for Cancer and took a couple of good spills throughout the trip. (We cycled 4,000 miles from Baltimore to San Francisco in an effort to raise money for the ACS and Hope Lodge of Baltimore. Along the way, we volunteered at communities, met the incredible people who have fought, survived, or help others survive cancer, and spread hope from town to town). These scars give me a story to tell everyone I meet and, in turn, inspire them to do something personal to help make a stance against cancer. Okay, and I really like my freckles too
I loove my lips! I have other body parts that I treasure but today I decided my lips are at the top of the list! Whether they’re crimson, pink, or glossy, their gorgeous features remain true even when trying to cover my pink studded braces;)
At 39 I have come to ‘appreciate the skin I am in.’ When I look at those few stretch marks on my abdomen I am reminded of the joyous time when I was pregnant with each of my girls. When my daughter asks why I have wrinkles by my eyes I proudly tell her that I have earned each one of them through laughter and smiling, and good times with our family. When one of my ’special’ students told me he was just feeling my arm (the untoned underside) I felt and an appreciation for soft skin rather than the lack of toning. When I look at my body I thank God I have strength and courage and good health to make every day great. I am a mom, a wife, a sister, a niece, an aunt, a best friend, a teacher, a mentor, and a coworker and I love the skin I am in!
OK – I’m in. I used to like my long back the best but with all the changes during chemo these days, I am going to have to go with my eyes. When I look in the mirror they are the one thing I can still see myself in. So, my favorite body part is my eyes. Chemo can make them cry and make them red but they are still my eyes.

What I love about my body is how warm and cuddly it is. Of all the laps in our house, our cat always chooses mine for a snooze.
I would have to say my legs! I love to wear fun stockings and I jump rope to keep them in shape. Also the clavicle near the neckline is another favorite.
My arms, because they can lift and hug and carry my sons. And they would look so darn cute in that dress.
My favorite body part is my hair. Growing up, it was always my best feature – long, straight and naturally red. It was the hardest thing for me to lose when I went through chemo and I am so thankful it’s back. It is still MUCH shorter than I’ve ever worn it, but I’ll never have a “bad hair” day again.
My favorite part of my body is my mouth. Not because of my crooked smile, or velvet tongue, but because of the voice it carries. My mouth can form the words to protest wrong. My mouth can agree and compromise with others. My mouth can often get me into trouble.
I love my mouth, filled with imperfect teeth, because it can say, “Thank You” it can say, “You’re Welcome” it can say “I’m Sorry” and “I Love You.” My mouth has the ability to express out loud the things my body wants, the things my body needs.
While the rest of my body is fickle and fluctuates. My mouth will always hold the vowels and consonants I need to sing a song or tell a story.
I love my nose. It’s not a perfect nose, but it’s me. When I look at my Aunts and see that we all have the same nose it make me feel like we are all connected and i LOVE it.
