Newspaper columnist and Pulitzer Prize finalist Regina Brett has some important things to say, like:
- Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
- If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d grab ours back.
- Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.
Inspiring stuff, right?
It gets better.
Brett, who in 2006 wrote these and 47 more lessons for the Cleveland Plain Dealer in honor of her 50th birthday, now has a book: God Never Blinks: 50 Lessons for Life’s Little Detours. And in this pretty little book, she takes her lessons and turns them into deeply personal essays. It all flows from her reflection on being a single parent, looking for love, working on her relationship with God, battling cancer and making peace with a difficult childhood — you know, the stuff to which we all can relate in our own private ways.
But wait, it’s gettin’ even better.
Three (3!) of you lucky readers are about to score a copy of Brett’s book. Want to be in the running? Keep reading. Oh, and hey, I hope you win, because this is just the kind of book that can help you live a happy and fulfilling life. Believe me, I have a copy right by my side, and I’m soaking up all sorts of wisdom, like this: Breathe. It calms the mind. Yea, I gotta remember that.

This book sounds wonderful and inspiring! Thank you for giving away three of them!
Hmmmm, a life lesson… well, in honor of the passing of little Layla Grace this morning I guess I’d have to say that “My Life is FAB!” My child is not fighting a terminal illness, so that gives me perspective on life… I’m hugging her a bit tighter and longer this evening…
Enter every contest presented to you. You just might win!
A very wise woman once told me (after I’d heard something awful being said about a family member), “Well, that’s just her opinion. That’s how she FEELS. Don’t worry. It’s not fact. But remember this—everyone’s got plenty of opinions!” It helped to calm me, and has since kept me from worrying so much about what people say, because opinions are most of the time the furthest thing away from the truth! (It’s actually helped me to be LESS opinionated!)
Lesson- Don’t look too far down the road .. you may miss something along the way
My life lesson, what you do for yourself dies with you, what you do for others, becomes immortal.
Appreciate what you have.
Life lesson… Don’t take yourself too seriously… learn to have fun with life.
I would be so happy to win this book. As far as a life lesson…I don’t think i have anything new to add but just be kind to everyone you meet. You never know how much a smile or a held door will affect somebodys day.
Sometimes life is just too lifey…
I have to say this books sound really nice. Once of the life lessions I’ve learnt the hard way is expect the unexpected!
My life lesson? Life’s not fair – the sooner you realize that and get over it, the easier your life will be and the less complaining you’ll have to hear and/or do LOL
Just wanted to say that I love your blog!
One of my major life lessons was realizing that worrying is a waste of time and energy. It’s a struggle to stay calm and see the whole picture but it’s vital.
Well cancer brings a lot of lessons into your life. Maybe the best one for me is that the sooner you realize you are not in control of everything in your life, the better. Sometimes the best things in life are those that aren’t in your plan.
i just stumbled across your blog (recently diagnosed with breast cancer) and already feel blessed. if i don’t win a book, i’ll go looking for it. it sounds like something i would enjoy reading. thanks.
I love a good inspirational book! My favorite life lesson and the one that I spend lots of time trying to impart to my children is “Tomorrow is another day.” It’s hard to remember that – when you want something or need to get something done, sometimes it’s just not going to happen today and if we’re able to remember the adage that tomorrow is another day, it makes it much easier to breath today.
Great giveaway!
Enjoy each moment of of your life because you never know what tomorrow will bring. Not that I believe in doom and gloom around the corner but just that as I have aged I have realized that every moment is precious – having lost those I have loved. I really do try and live this lesson most days….
I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your radio interview on 102.1 this past week. I actually sat in the car ntil the interview was done. Look forward to reading your book. When Trapper Jack was talking to you you were giving such down to earth normal everyday situations we all run into. Your outlook was very refreshing
